Lawrence Dallaglio, Ambassador for England 2015, visits The Club...

Cobham RFC enjoyed one of its proudest moments on Tuesday when it was able to announce to the Press and Members that, in conjunction with ACS International School, it had been chosen as a Team Base for the Rugby World Cup in September and October 2015.

To put the announcement into some perspective Cobham RFC is one of only six rugby clubs to have been selected by England 2015 as a Team Base. We have been chosen to host two national teams, Italy and Namibia out of the twenty nations who will be participating.

Cobham RFC made the announcement at a press conference held at the Clubhouse which was attended by Fran Leighton of England 2015 and we were also privileged that Lawrence Dallaglio, Ambassador for England 2015 participated on the panel.

Tony Balkwill, who was responsible for submitting the bid application and meeting the seven nations who toured Cobham and ACS's facilities, explained the RWC2015 journey we had been on for the last 18 months. President Lionel Frewin explained the history of how Cobham and the CSA had been able to develop the facilities over the last seven years and Chairman Steve Heard confirmed how important the selection was not just for Cobham's future development plans but also the wider Elmbridge Community. Finally Lawrence Dallaglio spoke about the excitement he shared for Cobham participating in the World's third largest sports event, answered questions from the press and members and joined in a photo call with members of Cobham's Mini and Youth teams who attended (A big thank you to the parents who braved the weather).
