Welcome to the new season

Message from the Club Chaiman Steve Heard

S Heard

Welcome one and all to the new season. I very much hope that you enjoy the rugby on the field and the social side of the club . There have been a number changes during the close season. We welcome Mike Cudmore as our new Director of Rugby. Mike has extensive experience of coaching senior rugby at all levels and we wish him well in his first season in charge at Cobham .

We also welcome Vicky Alexander who now has a dual role at the club. She is our first Community Coach,  coaching rugby in its various forms at St Andrew’s Primary School Cobham, Fullbrook school and Esher High School. In addition Vicky is the new Head of Girls Rugby at our club and will be the driving force behind the development of this new section for Cobham RFC. Good luck Vicky, we are all behind you.

You will have seen the announcement of Cobham RFC as a team base for Namibia and Italy for the 2015 World Cup. We believe that this really is a ‘once in a life time’ opportunity for this Club to be involved in such an important sporting event.  It bears testament to the work done by many people on the rugby club committee and the CSA over the last ten years. Our facilities passed the required tests which enabled our bid, along with our co-partners ACS, to be successful. If you look at the full list of team bases you will see that we are in an elite group of only six actual rugby clubs to be selected throughout the country.

Over the next few weeks we will be setting up a World Cup Committee to plan the logistics for this event, including how we give the best possible experience of Cobham  to our visiting teams, but also around creating a World Cup hub throughout the tournament so that our members and their friends play an active role in this event.

One hugely important reminder to all parents and visitors - please remember that if parking in Munro House under no circumstances park on the grass.  If parking at the Covenham Ground you must be in possession of an appropriate sticker. These rules are really important to the successful running and future of the club and so please follow procedure and policy.

Good luck to all the Mini, Youth, Girls and Senior teams throughout the season. Enjoy your Rugby, have fun and support your club.
