Braemar Cup Report  - October 30th 2011The Braemar Cup

Representatives from Hampshire, Kent, Wiltshire, Dorset, Sussex, Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire along with Cobham did battle in a thrilling display of U12 rugby in the third annual Braemar Cup for U12 teams to determine the champion of counties. 

Tonbridge Judddians, who beat Welwyn by two converted tries in the final, eventually won the competition. In the Plate final Chippenham edged out Winchester by a single converted try to nil. Earlier Cobham had lost to the eventual champions after coming through a tight qualifying group in second place.

Timing - Sunday 30th October, first matches to start at 10am.

Visiting U12 Clubs - A list of the visiting clubs is as follows:

Tonbridge Juddians (Kent); Horsham (Sussex); Wimborne (Dorset); Winchester (Hampshire); Chippenham (Wiltshire); Welwyn (Hertfordshire); Chinnor (Oxfordshire)

Competition Format - The teams are drawn into two groups for a first stage competition. For each team there will be a second stage competition of semi-finals and two finals being a plate and cup final.  The Cup Rules can be found by clicking here.

Location - The 2011 Braemar Cup is located at our Old Surbitonians Memorial Grounds on Fairmile Lane, Cobham, Surrey, KT11 2BU. Directions and a map can be found at the following link: http://www.cobhamrfc.com/contact-us 

Accommodation - Please note that for those clubs who wish to stay locally the night before there is a Premier Inn located immediately opposite the ground. Mentioning you are visiting the club may well help to negotiate a favourable rate.

Dogs - For health reasons dogs are not allowed on the ground.

Food and Drink - There will be a BBQ supplying, hot and cold drinks and other refreshments will be available from the clubhouse throughout the day.

Medical Facilities - First Aid facilities will be available on site for the duration of the competition.

Parking - Please note all attending clubs will be required to park, at no charge, at Munro House off the Portsmouth Road which is adjacent to the grounds. There will be NO access to the grounds from Fairmile Lane. The entrance to Munro House is shown on the plan below.

Braemar Cup 2011 Pitch Layout

 

Pitches - The Braemar competition will take place on the U11 and U12 pitches labelled above. The U9 and U10 pitches can be used for warm up purposes. If you intend to bring a team tent please don't put on any of the playing areas.

Referees - We have secured the services of independent society referees.

Competition Cancellation - In the event of cancellation due to bad weather, notice of cancellation will be emailed to each main club contact by 12.00 noon on the Saturday prior to the festival.
