Cobham C Festival - 3rd November 2013

It was a bright, but blustery day when the C squad turned up for the Cobham C festival and the squad were excited about the opportunity of playing at the home festival and wanted to emulate the successes of the A and B squads.

The squad comprised:
- Alfie Bowman, Henry Butlin, Nicholas Boulton, Ryan Alcock, Freddie Rees, Drew Grobler, Salv Nigrelli, Ella Nigrelli, Luke Horner-Long, Zach Wright, George Sawers, Nathan Kosbab, Daniel Asbury, Kaan Suphi.

1st game: vs Sutton & Epsom WON 7-0 - try scorer Kaan, conversion Alfie

2nd game: vs Chobham WON 12-0 - tries scored by Freddie and Henry, conversions Alfie

3rd game: vs Farnham WON 19-0 - tries scored by Ella and Salv, conversions Alfie

Finished top of their group and through to the Cup final.

Credit to the team throughout the league draw of the competition with the forwards working hard work and dominating with their strength in the scrum, rucks and mauls, alongside the backs that supported with excellent tackling and great forward running that resulted in the high scores and no tries scored against us.

CUP FINAL: vs Battersea Ironsides - DRAW 7-7. JOINT CUP WINNERS

After a 2 hour wait, the Cup final finally arrived. The team remained focused during the down time and came out fired up to beat a strong Battersea side who'd had a similar group performance in the other pool. After a hard few minutes of the first half, Battersea managed to create a bit of space and scored the first try and successfully converted. Whilst disappointed, the team held their composure and tried hard to level the score. The second half started with resumed vigour from Cobham who had no desire to lose the final. Some excellent plays were made with some strong tackling and rucking, strength in the mauls and excellent running and passing from the backs. When hope seemed lost, the squad had a big push towards the Battersea line and when the ball came to Luke he showed his strength and with team support he managed to snatch a well deserved try. Alfie "Wilkinson" Bowman then calmly stepped up to convert the try levelling the score. On another day we would have won and the team had a well deserved draw and then shared the Cup.

Thanks and praise to all the players who have really started to work well together as a team and their commitment, team spirit and hard work was outstanding. Well done to all!
