The Opera - and the show DID go on !

A wonderful evening of Opera AND rugby...

A Fantastic Night at the Opera

Even a clash with England's World Cup Semi Final did not deter our efforts to hold a successful fundraising event on Saturday evening.  A lot of work had gone into the evening and it just was NOT an option to reschedule the event – not even for the world cup - so “the show did go on! “

We had a fantastic evening with about 240 attending the event at Reed’s School in Cobham. This was of course helped by the promise of an “as live” showing of the England v France game after the performance – all sponsored by Menzies Chartered Accountants (our warmest thanks to Paul Hickson and his colleagues) who came to our rescue at the eleventh hour.

The singers were simply fantastic performing a mix of popular, well known opera songs and show songs. They were very warmly received by our audience and everyone joined in for the encore with rousing versions of Jerusalem and Bread of Heaven putting the whole crowd in good voice for the game !

About 100 people stayed to watch the game and we enjoyed a fantastic atmosphere for what proved to be a very exciting game.  The drama continued as about 10 minutes from the end of the game the DVD recording stopped !!  Thankfully one of the many back up recordings on site, was retrieved and we finally managed to finish the game and celebrate the win!  A truly memorable evening, enjoyed by all present.

A final count up reveals that the U8’s squad have raised just short of £6,000 to go towards the clubhouse fund – a really fantastic effort. Thank you very much to everyone who bought tickets and was involved in the planning of the evening!

A special thank you has to go to the singers, led by Kathryn Singleton, who gave their time and talent for free!  A great contribution which made the whole event possible!
