Xmas Lunch 2013

Over 140 in attendance

Cobham RFC celebrated Xmas and the end of the first half of their Season, both on and off the field last Saturday. Over 140 members, sponsors and guests sat down to a sumptuous lunch catered and served by Vanilla Bean followed by Cobham first team achieving another convincing win over Staines RFC.

President Lionel Frewin welcomed everyone, including principal Sponsors Mundays who had also sponsored the lunch and awarded Miles Unwin, Julian Harvey and Jonathan Robinson with Club ties.

Lionel also thanked Tony Balkwill and his committee for all the hard work that has put in to secure Cobham as a possible base for one of the national teams playing in the Rugby World Cup in 2015.

Stephen Heard, Chairman of Cobham Rugby  thanked Alison Cryer and Nick Hyams for securing the Samoa Tourist Board as the new sponsors for the Youth section and presented them with Cobham shirts which Alison was pleased to model.

Earlier in the week the Club had been the venue for the celebration of the life of John Shanahan who had been a stalwart member of the Club for many years and was particularly remembered for the work he had undertaken in establishing the Cobham Mini section. Before the match started there was a one minute silence in memory of John Shanahan observed by his partner Caroline both teams and members.

The lunch and post match celebrations reflected the exceptional camaraderie and fellowship of Cobham RFC which underpins an amateur club but which  has a very professional approach.
